The network announces the upcoming series, which will be centering on Morena's character straight-shooting sheriff Mickey Fox, during CBS' presentation in Los Angeles.

AceShowbiz - CBS has officially greenlit "Sheriff Country", a spin-off to hit Eye network drama "Fire Country". The network announced the decision during CBS' presentation in Los Angeles on Thursday, May 2.

The new series will be centering on Morena Baccarin's character straight-shooting sheriff Mickey Fox. Fox is stepsister of Cal Fire's division chief Sharon Leone, played by Diane Farr on "Fire Country". Fox investigates criminal activity as she patrols the streets of small-town Edgewater while contending with her ex-con father and a mysterious incident involving her wayward daughter.

Tony Phelan and Joan Rater have been tapped to write the first "Sheriff Country" episode, with story by Phelan, Rater and Max Thieriot. Thieriot, Phelan, Rater and Jerry Bruckheimer and KristieAnne Reed for Jerry Bruckheimer TV are executive producing the series.

"As we've said over and over, we do long-term development at CBS now," CBS Entertainment president Amy Reisenbach told the reporters while explaining its 2024-2025 schedule and its upcoming programming plans. " 'Sheriff Country' is hot. It's so hot that we've decided to make our first series pickup for 25-26 and 'Sheriff Country' will join the schedule next year as our series pick up."

She continued, "This will give us plenty of time to cast it, to figure out how we want to produce it, give us scheduling time, marketing time. It's a huge opportunity for us and it really speaks to the kind of development we want to be doing right now."

As for "Fire Country", the series stars Farr, Billy Burke, Kevin Alejandro, Stephanie Arcila, Jordan Calloway and Jules Latimer. The drama was named the most watched new broadcast series last season, averaging 8 million viewers per episode, 10 million in live+35 multi-platform viewing. Alongside Phelan and Rater, Thieriot co-created the series, which has already picked up a season 3.
